With an excellent blend of progressive angles and a balanced wheelbase, the geometry of the Orbea Laufey may well be the perfect recipe for our local trails on the Surrey Hills and South Downs. The slack headtube and 140mm travel fork deal with all but the most extreme features on offer around here, and the oversized 29+ tyres provide grip to rival full-sus bikes. However, it’s not all about pointing down – the mid-length wheelbase means the bike scrolls along the countryside very happily, so there’s no reason not to ride to and from the trails as well.
The Orbea Laufey H-30 is the most wallet-friendly of the clan, but performance is not compromised thanks to a very well-chosen cocktail of components. Up front we have an air-spung RockShox Recon RL fork offering plenty of adjustment to suit any rider. A blend of Shimano Deore and Sunrace parts provide a wide-range 11-speed drivetrain without breaking the bank, and reliable, tried-and-tested Shimano MT-201 brakes supply the stopping power.
