The Rockhopper is the do-it-all hardtail mountain bike and this latest iteration from Specialized for 2021 is no different. Utilising the latest in mountain bike technology with price-to-performance in mind, the Rockhopper Expert is best in class for versatility and reliability.
Made from Specialized’s A1 aluminium the precision butted frame is lightweight, robust and responsive – designed to be lively but reliable on the trails. This is enhanced by the XC inspired geometry, prioritising acceleration and manoeuvrability through technical sections. The air-sprung RockShox Judy suspension fork is a welcome addition, providing up to 100mm of travel configured based on the selected frame size, improving accuracy and comfort on unforgiving terrain. Internal routing maintains the clean aesthetic and protects any cables from the elements – the frame is also compatible with dropper posts, meaning there is plenty of room for customisation down the line.
Specialized have acknowledged the functionality of 1x drivetrains, offering a wide range of gears without the need for a front derailleur to further optimise reliability and efficiency – the Rockhopper Expert comes fitted with Sram’s 1x12-speed SX Eagle drivetrain with an 11-50 cassette to tackle the even the steepest of inclines. Stopping power is delivered by the ever-reliable Shimano MT200 hydraulic disc brakes, dependable in any weather conditions.
