The lightweight aluminium frame takes the tried-and-tested geometry of Trek’s Classics-dominating carbon models, and delivers the same riding position at a much more accessible price point. The carbon fork is tuned to absorb road vibrations and the worst of the impact should you hit a pothole or poorly-fitted manhole cover. Wide tyre clearances plus mounting points for a pannier rack and mudguards give the Domane AL 3 proper workhorse capability. Shimano’s Sora groupset, while undeniably a little weightier than its more expensive counterparts, offers crisp shifting and plenty of range within the 9-speed cassette. Fewer cogs also mean a less finicky setup, ideal for winter training.
